Darryll Holland is ready to dazzle again

Darryll Holland has a Classic in his sights when he hopes to make up for lost time when he returns to action at Epsom on Thursday.

The 38-year-old has been sidelined since 26 May with a broken right collarbone, which he sustained when the filly Misty Morn reared up leaving the stalls at Beverley.

Scans revealed a double fracture and although he did not require surgery, the recovery process has been slower than anticipated. Holland missed the Derby ride on the Mark Tomkins-trained Ted Spread and also the whole of the lucrative Royal Ascot meeting.

But having returned from holidaying in Barbados, the rider is keen to renew the partnership with the Chester Vase winner. Holland, who was nicknamed Dazzler in his younger days, said: "I rode out two lots on Saturday and have been working to keep my fitness levels up by doing a lot of swimming. I'm as light as I was before I was injured. I've got two rides for Pat Eddery at Epsom on Thursday and I can't wait to get back."

Though Ted Spread finished a disappointing 11th of 12 to Workforce in the Epsom Derby under Michael Hills, Holland is hopeful the colt will redeem himself.

"There is talk about him running in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York [17 August] but after that there is still the St Leger to look forward to. I think the trip will suit him."
