Crisis threatens Zola's homecoming

The Italian game is in disarray after the country's football federation decided to forge ahead with an expansion plan against the wishes of Serie B clubs. Now, 19 teams are ready to boycott the start of the season in protest at the addition of Catania, Genoa, Salernitana and Fiorentina.

The clubs fear the expansion to 24 teams will dilute their share of television cash.

Cagliari president Massimo Cellino said: "I have spent all my money and brought Zola over from England. How can I guarantee cover for these commitments?"
