Ian Botham's century - 1981

Certainly one of the most famous and replayed of Ashes moments was when Beefy destroyed the Australian attack with his 118 of 102 balls.

His heroics in the fifth test helped England win the match by 103 runs and secure the Ashes with a 3-1 series victory.

Shane Warne dropping Kevin Pietersen - 2005

Dubbed the moment Australia dropped the Ashes, the 2005 loss ended doubly unhappily for Warne, so often the country's chief destroyer.

Pietersen was dropped twice on way to his Ashes-securing innings of 158 but it was Warne's put-down that was the easiest chance, as he failed to hold on to a straightforward slip catch off Brett Lee's bowling when England's star man had just 15 runs to his name.

Darren Gough hat-trick - Sydney 1999

Gough achieved the first hat-trick by an Englishman in an Ashes test since 1899 when he dismissed Ian Healy, Stuart MacGill and finally Colin Miller in the fifth test in Sydney.

The country's premier strike bowler had Healy caught behind before smashing the stumps of the Aussie tailenders with his fine trademark inswinging yorkers.

Mark Butcher match-winning century - 2001

Butcher's brilliant knock came in the fourth test at Headingley and led England to an unlikely victory.

Chasing 315 to win, the Surrey batsman was in perfect nick as he carted the bowling to all corners of Headingley to give the home fans something to cheer from another series defeat.
