Jimmy Anderson insists pitches should suit home side

Jimmy Anderson says England will continue to prepare helpful pitches for home Tests despite Australian anger during the recent Ashes series.

The tourists were frustrated to find extremely seamer-friendly wickets for the matches at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge — and England won both games inside three days to ensure they regained the urn.

Anderson denied that England captain Alastair Cook exerted undue influence on ground staff but said: “We should prepare pitches that suit us. We should have done it more in the past and we should do it more in the future.

“When we go to Australia they prepare the pitches to suit their team and when we go to India the same thing happens. A big deal was made that we were telling the groundsmen to do this and that.

“I’m sure an opinion was offered but we weren’t saying: ‘You have to prepare this or that’. But even if we did, everyone around the world prepares pitches to give them home advantage and I don’t see why it should be any different here,” he told Breathe Sport.

Meanwhile, the Professional Cricketers’ Association are looking for a new chief executive after Angus Porter left his role.
