England collapse as India build 478-run lead on day two of Mumbai Test

England are heading towards a heavy defeat inside three days after being ripped apart by Deepti Sharma on day two of the one-off Test in Mumbai.

Sharma, who had made a punchy half-century late on day one of the four-day contest, claimed remarkable figures of five for seven as England were bundled out for 136 in reply to India's 428.

Harmanpreet Kaur surprisingly declined to enforce the follow-on despite a track offering increasing turn, allowing Charlie Dean and Sophie Ecclestone to share six wickets after tea but, with the skipper unbeaten at the close, the home side were 186 for six and had extended their lead to 478.

England had been made to toil in the field on day one as India won the toss and piled on the runs, but their own first innings was in trouble from the moment Sophia Dunkley was bowled by Renuka Singh in the third over.

Nat Sciver-Brunt offered some resistance with 59 from 70 balls, but no other batter reached 20 as England's weakness against spin was once again exposed. From 126 for four, the last six wickets fell for just 10 runs as the tourists were rolled inside 36 overs.
