We want to keep producing players who are capable of helping England win the Ashes, as they have this summer.
Also, if you have 14 games rather than 16, it means counties will play some teams twice, others only once. At the end of the season, people will wonder whether the champions had an easier schedule than the teams they overcame.
So my idea is what it has always been. Play the Twenty20 competition in a block in the middle of the summer. That would ensure there was room for teams to breathe throughout the summer.
I realise that the financial side is a key part of any decisions taken but we have to do everything we can to make sure the quality of the first-class game does not suffer.
