First stages of Lord's Cricket Ground's £200m redevelopment get underway

The first stages of a £200m redevelopment that will help transform Lord's into the 'finest cricket ground in the world' are underway.

A new stand, a pub within the perimeter of the stadium, and retractable seating which can be raised on match days form part of the extensive construction work that is scheduled to be completed prior to the 2022 Ashes series.

The Warner Stand, which was erected in 1958, is set to be improved with a £25m outlay that will reduce the number of restricted view seats from the current figure of 600 to 100.

A further £80m is set to be spent on the South Western project at the pavilion end of the ground and will help to boost the stadium's total capacity to 30,530.

New facilities for the match control area and third umpire - plus a location to house all of the technological advances that have aided the game's progression - will also be built.
