Crespo confident heâ™s on to a winner

Hernan Crespo today revealed that it was his hunger for silverware that convinced him to sign for Chelsea.

The Argentina striker failed to win the scudetto in Italy, with two domestic cups for Parma in 1999 scant reward for six seasons in Serie A, and is convinced he can do better in England.

Crespo hopes to be given international clearance to make his Chelsea debut against Blackburn on Saturday and is confident of sparking their Championship challenge.

He told Chelsea TV: “I’ve come here to win things, not just to participate. We will do everything we can to win things.

“It’s very important to me because it’s a great sporting chance and a great social chance with a great group of players. I am very happy to be at Chelsea.”

Manager Claudio Ranieri plans to build his team around Crespo and his international team-mate Juan Veron. The Argentinian pair have known each other for almost a decade, playing together for Argentina Under-21s and Parma before graduating to full international honours, and Crespo is convinced they can deliver.

He said: “We played not only together at Parma and the national side. We had a lot of chances to win things with the teams we were at and we hope to do things at Chelsea together.”
