Middlesex captain Andrew Strauss raced to a fine 57 not out at Guildford as his side chased the Surrey total of 411.

Strauss, who has now scored over 1,000 runs in this year's county championship, put on 101 with fellow opener Sven Koenig.

The Surrey pace attack appeared blunt until Alex Tudor removed Koenig for 42. Owais Shah has now joined Strauss in the middle.

Earlier a 61 not out from Surrey's Saqlain Mushtaq and a 47 by Jimmy Ormond boosted the Surrey score.

Yesterday Middlesex put Surrey into bat, with Graham Thorpe (51) and Rikki Clarke (85) providing key scores.
