Surrey have signed Pakistan leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed on a match-by-match basis to replace his countryman Saqlain Mushtaq while he plays in a three-nation tournament in Tangiers.
Saqlain should be back to face Warwickshire at Edgbaston on 27 August.
Mushtaq made his debut against Sussex at Hove today where championship leaders Surrey soon lost openers Ali Brown and Ian Ward.
But Mark Ramprakash, overlooked by England for the Second Test against India, was leading a solid fightback.

Kent

Australian captain Steve Waugh today signed for Kent until the end of the season.
His new side were making good progress against Somerset at Canterbury with Amjad Khan taking five wickets.

Bowler Chris Tremlett took as three wickets as Hampshire took control against Lancashire at Old Trafford. Only opener Alec Swann could cope with the visitors' attack, remaining unbeaten on 30.

Chris Bassano lost two partners as he moved towards a century in Derbyshire's home encounter with Essex.
Steve Selwood and Steve Stubbings both fell early as Bassano reached 85.

Rain in north London has delayed the resumption of Middlesex's match with Nottinghamshire at Lord's.
The hosts are in a healthy position with Owais Shah 78 not out and Ben Hutton unbeaten on 69.
