Cornish eyes on Winnan

Who will be the Saracens player most in the rugby spotlight on Sunday? Richard Hill, for England in the World Cup semi-final? Raphael Ibanez, the France hooker? Or will it be Adryan Winnan?

In the far west of Cornwall, at least, the answer is most likely to be Winnan. It is not that the Cornish don't care much for England, but when Sunday comes it is Penzance & Newlyn versus Saracens in the Powergen Cup sixth round that will hold the county's attention.

Winnan, the 20-year-old Saracens full-back, will be centre stage as a Cornish lad who left Penryn Rugby Club in 2001 to seek his rugby fortune in London.

"There's definitely going to be a Cornwall v England feel to this game," said Winnan. "This is a must-win game for Saracens, a very important game for us. I want to put in a good performance in front of the Cornish fans - and my friends and family."

HARLEQUINS travel to Leeds for the second of three meetings between them in five weeks as the domestic cup weekend starts tonight. Quins, after their fine league win over Northampton last week, should be unchanged.

GLOUCESTER, the cup-holders, meet 2002 winners London Irish at Kingsholm tomorrow in a heavyweight meeting. Irish have been forced into making two changes: Rob Hardwick is replaced by Pierre Durant, while Nick Kennedy takes over from Ryan Strudwick.
