Collymore's Wolves move hits trouble

Stan Collymore's move to Wolves has been thrown into doubt because Spanish club Real Oviedo are suing the striker for £7million.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey met Collymore and his agent Jonathan Crystal yesterday but when he follows up what he described as a 'positive' conversation, he will find that Oviedo are less accommodating.

They are furious that Collymore, 30, left them without warning last season - his 88 minutes of football costing them massive embarrassment and £500,000 in wages and signing-on fees. Their £7m claim for breach of contract relates to a 'buy-out' clause should any club come in for him.

At the very least, they want their money back and Wolves will find the former Liverpool and Aston Villa front man comes at a hefty price. The Spanish club hold his registration and will ask for a fee of more than £1m. Club official Miguel Solis said: 'We got on very well with Stan. We were friends and we couldn't understand it when he left everything behind.'

Moxey said: 'Our conversation with Stan and his people was very positive. Both parties are interested in developing this further.'

Middlesbrough midfielder Christian Karembeu yesterday completed a £3million move to Olympiakos. The deal is reportedly worth £1.7m a year and he will be able to play in the Champions League.
