Coleman's delighted with John

Collins John scored four times in his first two starts for Fulham after a trip home to see his mum,

Manager Chris Coleman let the 18-year-old return to Holland for a few days and reckons it set him up to do well in the Premiership.

John got both goals in a 2-0 win at Leicester and two more in the 4-3 home defeat by Blackburn over the Easter weekend.

Coleman, who is expected to sign a new two-year contract in the next few days, had hoped to keep the striker he bought from Dutch side FC Twente out of the limelight. But he is happy to let Liberian-born John go back to the country where he was raised whenever he likes and will reward the youngster by playing him at Liverpool tomorrow if he overcomes a hamstring strain.

Coleman said: "I let him go home two or three weeks ago because he had not seen his mum for a while. He recharged his batteries, came back and has gone from strength to strength. He can go home for as long as he likes if he keeps scoring goals. Just turn up on Saturdays!

"He is going to be a good player but he is not the finished article yet by far. We have got to be careful with him but he has got to play." Coleman took over as caretaker manager a year ago. He saved Fulham from relegation and believes his team can still finish in the top eight this season.

Along with assistant Steve Kean, he is being rewarded with a new contract to replace the 12-month rolling deal he signed at the end of last season.
