Coleman now has to raise his players' spirits ahead of tomorrow night's Carling Cup quarter-final against Chelsea.
However, he admitted the match was an unwanted distraction in light of Fulham's abject league form as they are now only two points above the drop-zone.
"Forget about the Chelsea game, we are in a relegation dogfight," he said. "I'd take a win next Saturday [against Norwich] over going through to the semi-finals of the cup any day."
Edwin van der Sar is likely to return to the starting line-up after Mark Crossley suffered a groin injury.
