Clive: We'll learn from Rio

Clive Woodward believes Rio Ferdinand's drug-testing problems will ensure his World Cup players do not make the same mistake during the tournament which starts in Australia tomorrow.

And the England coach today revealed that 10 of the squad had already been tested within a week of arrival and more can expect to be screened in the coming weeks.

England kick off their campaign against Georgia on Sunday and the players are only too aware of the controversy surrounding the England football team.

Woodward said: "All I can say is that there is a lot of testing going on. It's a physical contact game and obviously the opportunity is there to cheat in terms of performance enhancing drugs.

"But there isn't a problem and the way to keep control of these situation is to have this drug testing. As soon as we arrived, ten players were tested immediately.

"We have also had people coming to Pennyhill Park regularly and just picking people out.

"Our doctor, Simon Kemp, is always on to the players about the rules of the competition and the rules of being a professional sportsman. And testing is part of it, you just cannot say no or you will be in all sorts of trouble.
