Classy Coe can set record straight

Coe can gain revenge for his Coral Welsh National failure by snatching victory in the feature race at Haydock tomorrow.

The Blue Square Gold Cup Chase is virtually a re-run of the Welsh race, with the first six home at Chepstow all renewing rivalry providing the course passes a 9am inspection.

Dream Alliance prevailed by three-quarters of a length from Silver By Nature in December. Philip Hobbs' winner has thrived in the 54 days since and goes well when fresh but Coe (3.35pm), trained by Sue Smith and ridden by Richard McGrath, is sure to star. The eight-year-old spoiled his chance at Chepstow by running a little keenly but clearly enjoys Haydock, with his last three handicap chase appearances there yielding a victory and two second placings on ground varying between good and heavy.

Channel 4 also covers Ascot's prestigious card which includes the Grade 1 Ascot Chase, where a small but select field of six contests the extended 2m 5f event. Herecomesthetruth (3.15pm, *.b) is unbeaten when finishing over fences but blotted his copybook when unseating Christian Williams in the Peterbrough Chase.Ruby Walsh is in the saddle this time, but 2007 winner Monet's Garden also likes to dominate from the front and it could develop into a tactical affair.
