Chelsea want to sell Mutu

Adrian Mutu's loan move to Juventus was in danger of stalling today after the two clubs failed to agree the terms of the transfer.

Chelsea agreed to loan him to the Turin club on the understanding they would buy him for £6.6million at the end of the season. But Chelsea are now thought to be seeking a permanent transfer immediately.

Mutu's representatives were meeting chief executive Peter Kenyon this morning in an attempt to resurrect the transfer and the player's desire to leave should ensure the deal goes through.

Mutu's possible departure will leave Chelsea with just three specialist forwards - Didier Drogba, Mateja Kezman and Eidur Gudjohnsen - but Jose Mourinho has no plans to seek a replacement.

The head coach has money to spend but, with Arjen Robben, Damien Duff and Joe Cole all able to play behind a leading striker, he believes he has enough attacking resources.

Chelsea's striking options could be stretched at the start of the season, though, after the Football Association confirmed that Kezman has been given a three-match ban for his sending off against Roma on the club's American tour. The Serbian striker's suspension begins on 17 August and rules him out of matches against Birmingham City, Crystal Palace and Southampton, though Chelsea are considering an appeal for wrongful dismissal.
