"The supporters are all passionate about football and are very demanding, but if you want to be a manager at the highest level you have to be able to cope with that pressure.
"They desperately want to be successful and will be smarting from Sunday's defeat as they don't like getting beaten on their own ground - 4-1 is a very heavy defeat and they'll come out wanting to make up for it."
While Newcastle appear to be struggling under the burden of expectation from their fans, Clarke is confident Chelsea's players can handle the pressure.
Jose Mourinho's side moved to the top of the Premiership for the first time following Saturday's 1-0 win over Everton and have no problem leading from the front.
Clarke said: "We've never really thought about being top of the league, second, third or fourth. We just want to win as many games as we can.
"We've made a very good start and are looking to continue it in the Carling Cup. You're only under pressure if you put yourself under pressure. We've got top-quality players and can cope with everything.
"It's the Carling Cup tonight so we'll have a totally different psyche. There's pressure every time these boys go out on to the pitch, every time they pull on a Chelsea shirt, because they're expected to perform. I'm sure they can all handle it."
Mourinho will make several changes for tonight's game, with Robert Huth, Scott Parker and William Gallas all likely to start.
Clarke added: "We'll make one or two changes, but it won't necessarily weaken the team as we've lots of top international players.
"It's the time of year when we need to rest one or two because we've got a difficult schedule and a lot of games.
"It doesn't get easier between now and Christmas.
"But we've got a good squad of players who are focused on the job in hand and want to be successful. They're all young, they're all ambitious and, at the moment, things are going very well for us."
