Chelsea adopt siege mentality

"It was important for us to win to regain our confidence but after this performance my players are happy. I am happy, I am very pleased."

Thierry Henry urged caution from his Arsenal team-mates despite the Gunners now appearing to hold the advantage for the second leg.

"We are not in the semi-final yet," said the French striker. "I don't think the advantage is necessarily with Arsenal. We will only see if the away goal is important at the end of the second leg. Anything can happen in that game. At the moment it is only half-time.

"We need to keep our feet on the ground and concentrate. The two teams know each other so well. They know how to stop us and we know how to stop them.

"We are not taking anything for granted. We defended well and came back in the game after we were behind, so that doesn't look like a team who are taking anything for granted. That is a team with a great mentality."

Henry also stressed that while Arsenal may be at a disadvantage to Chelsea in terms of squad strength, they have been able to share around the goal-scoring duties.

"At the moment it is Robert Pires," said Henry. "He is always in the box and always where he has to be at the right time.

"Two weeks ago it was Edu and Dennis Bergkamp. Now it is Robert and before it was me and then Jose (Antonio Reyes).

"We act and play like a team. I know people are trying to say this is a oneman or a two-man team but I don't think so. The thing that is making the difference this season is that someone is stepping in and is doing the job when needed and all the others are fighting."

Although Chelsea matched Arsenal, left-back Wayne Bridge admitted there was a feeling of " disappointment" after they had lost the lead so quickly.

"At least we didn't lose," he said. "Now we have to go there and make sure we score.

"We played well and they didn't create too many chances, so it was a bit disappointing when they equalised although it was a good goal. We're still right in there with a chance, though. We've scored enough goals against Arsenal to feel optimistic."

Gudjohnsen agreed with his team-mate, adding that Arsenal's goal came as a big blow when Chelsea were on top.

"We're quite pleased with our overall performance," said Gudjohnsen. "They were the better side in the first half without creating any clear-cut chances. After we took the lead we had a great spell during which we really looked like getting a second goal and they probably scored in the middle of one of our best spells. It was a blow for us.

"My goal was a reward for hard work. I saw the ball was going to be tight for their goalkeeper. It was a bit fortunate the way I blocked the ball. It stayed in my path and I was able to finish it.

"We can't be too disappointed, though, even after conceding a goal. Scoring at Arsenal hasn't been a problem. Keeping a clean sheet is the most difficult thing."

Chelsea have won all their away Champions League matches this season but Gudjohnsen believes that playing Arsenal makes things different.

"It was a bit of a strange atmosphere," he said. "You didn't realise it was a Champions League match until you heard the little tune as you walked out."
