Charlton ace fears Iceland pal will put boot in

Charlton players have been warned they may need extra shinpads when they face Leicester tomorrow.

Defender Hermann Hreidarsson says they should consider reinforcing their leg protection for the FA Cup tie because his Iceland team-mate, City midfielder Joey Gudjonsson, has got a hefty kick on him.

The Charlton player said: "For Iceland he is the one who tries to kick them all on the opposite side so I will be telling my teammates to wear extra shinpads.

"I've never played against him before but we have exchanged a few text messages to wind each other up a bit. We are not really close, but all the Icelandic players try to meet up and play golf or go out for meals.

"I would love to get one over on Gudjonsson on the pitch because he is a decent golfer. He hits the ball the furthest out of us and is a good laugh. I am similar to Eidur Gudjohnsen on the golf course and there are quite a few of us at the same level - we are all crap."

As for tomorrow, Hreidarsson believes Charlton can stop Leicester's Gudjonsson and get into Europe through the FA Cup.

The draw has been kind to Charlton so far, with Rochdale and Yeovil beaten in previous rounds at The Valley.

A victory at home tomorrow would put them in the quarterfinals, further than Hreidarsson has been before.
