'Chadwick could have done better'

Nick Chadwick has foiled one comeback and fuelled another in two telling appearances as a substitute so has every reason to feel pleased with himself.

He may well be, but Everton's teenage goalscoring prodigy should not expect to see the same satisfied smile on the face of David Moyes.

The 38-year-old Scot, in charge of Everton for just a month, was restrained in his praise of the 19-year-old. 'We needed a Johnny-onthe-spot to get us a goal from somewhere, and he took his opportunity well,' said Moyes. But he added: 'He had a couple more chances after that, and I thought he could have done a bit better with one of them.'

Chadwick, who finished off a Bolton revival at Goodison Park a fortnight ago, went on as a 61st-minute substitute against Leicester - 2-0 up at that stage - and headed an Everton fightback into motion within two minutes. Ian Walker brilliantly tipped over another Chadwick header soon after but could do nothing about a closerange Duncan Ferguson equaliser four minutes from time that wiped out Brian Deane's first-half double.

Everton defender Alan Stubbs agreed with the boss's assessment of Chadwick. 'It is more a case of enthusiasm than anything at his age, but his link-up play and movement are getting better,' he said.

'He is doing well. It could have been better for him, though, so he has to knuckle down and take his chances when they come.'

Micky Adams began his reign as Leicester manager with relegation already decided. He saw plenty of cause for optimism, though, despite a two-goal lead being surrendered for the third time this season.
