Biarritz, strongly fancied before the competition began, saw their quarter-final hopes effectively end after they crashed 15-10 against Pool Three hosts Swansea. Arwel Thomas was Swansea's hero, kicking five penalties, but his team have still not scored a try in Europe this term. Stade Francais took a firm grip on Pool Two, making it three wins out of three by destroying Ulster 40-11 in Paris. Ulster, without injured fly half David Humphreys, had no answer to Stade's adventurous style that yielded tries for Fabien Galthie, Sylvain Marconnet, Sylvain Jonnet and Christophe Dominici.
