Casillas pleas for progress

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas today became the first Spanish international to criticise the disgraceful racial chanting which overshadowed the match in Madrid.

"We cannot allow this thing to happen again," said Casillas. "We have got to make progress."

Casillas's remarks will be a source of embarrassment for Luis Aragones, who is under pressure to resign. The Spain coach refused to condemn the behaviour of supporters who directed taunts towards England's black players at the Bernabeu. FIFA have launched their own investigation into the incidents, while the Football Association have demanded that Aragones is called to account.
