Carr leaves Hoddle with headache

Steve Carr got shirty with Brazilian star Leonardo as Tottenham's friendly with Feyenoord turned nasty in Rotterdam.

The Spurs and Ireland defender had a running battle with the Brazilian midfielder from the kick-off which left his shirt in tatters as Glenn Hoddle's men held the Dutch side to a draw with goals from Teddy Sheringham and Steffen Iversen.

Carr's rough ride led to his substitution on the half-hour, and he is not yet fully match-fit after a year out with a knee problem, leaving Hoddle with an injury crisis in defence after seeing Ben Thatcher limp off in Saturday's 1-0 friendly victory at Watford.

Thatcher lasted less than 30 minutes at Vicarage Road before picking up a groin injury, and he joins fellow defenders Ledley King, Anthony Gardner and Dean Richards on the sidelines.

'It's difficult,' said Hoddle. 'Ben pulled his groin chasing a ball in the first half. We'll have to see how it is in the next couple of days, but it's a worry.

'What hurts us is that these injuries are all to players in the same position.'

Sheringham put Spurs ahead in the 23rd minute yesterday, volleying home from close range after good work by Welsh midfielder Simon Davies.

Feyenoord fought back, and after Paul Bosveld hit the bar, Ramon van Harren hit a 35-yard screamer in the 36th minute that gave Kasey Keller no chance.
