Can Danny join Britain's great outsiders

Mike Tyson was quoted at 14-1 on when the former undisputed champion's fight against Danny Williams was announced.

So should Londoner Williams triumph in Louisville tonight, it will rank as one of the greatest upsets achieved by a British boxer.

Here are four other fights that proved British outsiders can beat the odds:

John H Stracey v Jose Napoles, Mexico City, 1975 Eastender Stracey was not given a chance going to Mexico City to challenge the formidable Cuban WBC welterweight champion Jose Napoles. But despite being knocked down in round one, Stracey sent Napoles into retirement by battering him to a sixth round defeat.

Lloyd Honeyghan v Donald Curry, Atlantic City, 1986 Despite being unbeaten in 27 previous fights, 10-1 outsider Honeyghan was considered mere cannon fodder for the seemingly invincible Curry's latest world welterweight title defence. But the South London-based 'Ragamuffin Man' attacked and, fighting like a man possessed, bludgeoned the champion into submission before the end of the sixth round.

Ken Buchanan v Ismael Laguna, San Juan, 1970 Buchanan was called in as a late substitute to challenge Laguna for the WBA lightweight title in Puerto Rico. The Scot, famous for his tartancoloured shorts, seized his chance by claiming a hardfought points win and the world title.

Wayne McCullough v Yasuei Yakushiji, Nagoya, 1995 McCullough went to Japan for his WBC bantamweight title crack at Yakushiji. The Belfast man piled on the pressure and did enough to eke out a split decision victory on Yakushiji's home turf.
