And he has already picked out where he can have a shot at getting past some of his rivals in Sunday's race as he bids for another top-six finish at the swooping hillside track in the Styrian mountains.
"After the first corner there is a long straight," he said. "After that, you have to brake down to 65km/h and that is one of the places where I think you will see some passing manoeuvres.
"But I particularly like the swooping left-handers at turns five and six, and the quick chicane at the exit of six, which is really good fun to drive."
His car will have been developed for this race as the team continues their push to provide the Briton with the most competitive machinery they can.
Button was fifth in his first Austrian Grand Prix in 2000 but failed to finish last year.
"Whatever I have done in the past is in the past," he said.
"I am looking to do my best this season for myself and the team. I have proved I can be quick here so I am sure we will be competitive."
