Brentford's stadium plan gets green light

Brentford have been given the go-ahead for a £2.5million redevelopment of Griffin Park.

The scheme will raise the ground capacity to 14,500 and also involve the building of executive lounges and a new roof on the away end. After initially delaying the project due to residents' concerns, Hounslow Council have now granted planning permission.

Chairman Eddie Rogers said: "These improvements are long overdue. I consider it to be a major step in achieving a sustainable future for the club."

Meanwhile, Martin Allen has promised his play-off-chasing side "will come back and be ready" for tomorrow's League One game at Wrexham following their 4-1 hammering by Bradford.

"They don't become bad players overnight," he said. "They've done fantastically well to get us into this position."
