Brentford suffer big-night nerves

Brentford are limping towards promotion but Marcus Bean insists he does not want any help from other teams to pull them over the line.

Dagenham & Redbridge produced one of their best displays of the season to stun Brentford with a 3-1 win last night, and The Bees now face a difficult trip to Darlington on Saturday looking to clinch the necessary points to take them up, and that fixture is followed by an encounter with Luton Town.

However, manager Andy Scott could still see his side win promotion without picking up a point - if Bury fail to beat Gillingham at the weekend. "I don't want to rely on results from other teams, it's not a nice way to get promoted," said Bees midfielder Bean. "The best way to go up is by winning yourself, and we want to do that."

Sam Saunders gave Dagenham a 20th minute lead as he tucked beneath Ben Hamer, and just after the half hour mark Solomon Taiwo scored a superb effort from 25 yards. The home side secured the points on 55 minutes as Mark Arber converted a Saunders corner kick. Damien Spencer scored a consolation goal six minutes from time for the visitors, but it was not enough.

Dagenham's win lifts them into seventh and they have a fantastic chance of reaching Wembley in the play-offs if they can maintain this form.
