Bitter blow hits Brown bid

Cathy Brown's attempt to become the first British woman to win a European Boxing Union title last night ended in controversial failure.

Brown lost a split decision to defending flyweight champion Stefania Bianchini in Bergamo, Italy.

But her manager Adam Booth insisted: "Cathy boxed brilliantly and even the crowd knew she won the fight."
