Benni's rap over racists

Drogba was subjected to monkey chanting by sections of the Dragao Stadium crowd during Porto's 2-1 win and Gallas was jeered.

Chelsea were reluctant to comment on another depressing outbreak of racism so soon after the disgraceful scenes which marred England's visit to Spain last month.

UEFA will decide today whether to open another inquiry but McCarthy was more forthright.

The South African international, who scored Porto's winner, said: "In this life people have to grow up a little bit of it and I don't see why people make those kind of noises. They do it to one black player but our team also has black players so we feel it too. People need to be more mature and think about these issues.

"We all want a better world and these things can start on the football field. We should show respect for all people whether they are a black guy, a white guy, Indian, yellow or blue or whatever.

"It makes me angry that my own supporters could do these things. I take it as well and am no different from Drogba or any other black player.

McCarthy added: "If they make those remarks to other black players they make them to me as well. I'm not a white man, don't they understand.

"There are a lot of stupid people at Porto but if we make a big deal out of it things will get even worse. I just try to forget about it and play like it doesn't exist. I'm not going to stress myself over these stupid people."

The disgusting abuse at Porto capped a miserable night for Chelsea, who lost only their second game of the season to hand Arsenal a crucial psychological advantage going into Sunday's Premiership clash at Highbury.
