Bellamy seals Bolton demolition

He's still raw at 22 and no snip at £6million but Newcastle manager and arch-critic Bobby Robson knows he may well have struck gold with Craig Bellamy.

Potential remains the watchword - it is early days for their partnership, though five goals between them in the six matches they have played together suggests the germ of a smooth relationship. Robson, who still has £7m Carl Cort to come back from injury, said: 'Alan and Craig are complete opposites - and you need a combination like that. 'Alan plays with his back to goal and holds the ball up well, plays simple passes and works the channels - he has courage and loves a challenge.

'Craig is a superb runner. He has great movement off the ball, penetrates, spins and is always looking for the ball. I've just got to stop him talking - he talks and talks and gets his name taken. He could get a red card.' Bellamy did indeed talk himself into referee Mike Riley's book, but Jussi Jaaskelainen deserved the credit for two fine, brave saves before the Finland goalkeeper handled outside his area in the 62nd minute and was sent off, effectively ending Bolton's chances as Laurent Robert hit the resulting free-kick past his emergency deputy Bo Hansen. Shearer, whose unchallenged header set up Nobby Solano for a hotlydisputed close-range opener, scored the third with a header from Robert's cross before Bellamy converted his centre.
