Bellamy axed after bust-up

Craig Bellamy last night pledged he would play anywhere to save his Newcastle career after being dropped following a row with Graeme Souness.

The Wales striker clashed with his boss after repeatedly playing in midfield while the Magpies were linked with a host of other forwards.

Bellamy was then axed from yesterday's 1-0 Premiership defeat at Arsenal but insisted: 'I've been told to do a job - that's what I've tried to do but I want to go up front.

'I went to the manager and chairman, and they said they weren't getting a forward but I feel I'm not doing myself justice in midfield because I'm so attack-minded.'

Souness revealed Bellamy told him he was unfit, only to declare himself fit yesterday.

'I got left out but am fully fit,' Bellamy added. 'I will play anywhere. I've proved it by playing 20 games out of position and I want to play for Newcastle. I walked off the training ground on Thursday to speak to the manager and thought it was resolved.

'I trained on Friday as normal and came here and found out I wasn't on the bench. Yet I've trained as hard as I can and done a job. The fans know it. They've seen me play out of position and I've not moaned or sulked.
