Bees pay homage to former captain

Brentford will hold a minute's silence in memory of Ken Coote before tonight's friendly against Portsmouth at Griffin Park.

Coote, who played a club-record 514 league games for Brentford, died last Saturday, aged 75, following a short illness. Signed from Wembley Town in 1949, he was the mainstay of the Bees defence for 15 years and captained the club to the Fourth Division title in 1963.

Coote had a reputation as a true gentlemen and did not receive one booking throughout his illustrious career at Griffin Park.

Following the tribute to Coote, striker Peter Beadle will have another chance to stake his claim for a contract.

The former Bristol City striker, who is now a free agent, is set to start against the Premiership new boys after a scoring debut in the 3-1 win at Farnborough.

Assistant manager Gary Thompson said: "Talks are ongoing, but the important thing is he wants to come here." Brentford are also in talks with Reading about a loan deal for striker Darius Henderson.
