Beer record stands, says Greenwood

The extra in-flight beer which British Airways provided for England's return flight remained largely untouched as Martin Johnson's team chose instead to drink in all the excitement of their homeward journey.

Will Greenwood, the Harlequins centre, revealed: "Australian cricketer David Boon's Sydney to London record of 50-odd cans is still standing."

Greenwood spoke emotionally about the inspiration he drew on from the memory of his son, Freddie, who sadly died shortly after his birth last year.

"It is something my wife Caro and I have had to live with for 14 months now, but rugby is a real release for me," said Greenwood.

"Caro is pregnant again, which is why she was not able to travel to Australia and we're hoping that we soon have a little brother or sister for Freddie.

"Freddie, however, is always there in my thoughts and was especially so when I collected my medal on Saturday. If everything had gone right, he and Caro would have been there with me.
