He claimed Hoddle justified the decision by saying the midfielder was not "focused" but Beckham added: "Later I found out what was probably behind it all. The previous week we'd had a day off to relax, play golf, see our families and do whatever we wanted.
"Most of the lads had gone out on the course. I'm not much of a golfer and anyway, any chance I get I want to be with my family.
"Victoria flew out and we spent our time around the apartment complex swimming, sunbathing and catching up. Glenn didn't like that.
"The other players were on the golf course and I wasn't. So that meant I wasn't concentrating on England, as far as he was concerned. They're all playing golf and he's with his girlfriend - that can't be good for team spirit. It made no sense. Why give us the choice in the first place? Maybe it was another chance to test a player, me. But why play mind games with a 23-year-old?"
Beckham later scored against Colombia after playing from the start. He said: "Part of me wanted to run over to the bench to Glenn Hoddle. 'There you go what did you make of that?'"
But the problems with Hoddle did not end there. Before the World Cup, the England coach publicly accused Beckham of having a "disciplinary problem". The Real Madrid star believes this could have led to him being targeted by Simeone during the Argentina game.
Beckham said: "Diego Simeone is a good player but really annoying to play against - always tapping your ankles, niggling at you. It gets to opposition players and he knows it.
"Maybe Simeone, too, was aware that Glenn Hoddle said before the tournament he was worried about my temperament in pressure situations."
Speaking about the moment before his red card, Beckham added: "While I was down on the ground, he made to ruffle my hair and he gave it a tug. I flicked my leg up backwards towards him. It was instinctive but wrong.
"You just can't allow yourself to retaliate. I was provoked but, almost at the same moment I reacted, I knew I shouldn't have done."
Beckham also claims Hoddle treated players "ridiculously" when he chose his final 22-man Cup squad at England's training camp in Spain. During the selection process, Paul Gascoigne famously threw a tantrum after being dropped.
Beckham said: "It was a bit like a meat market: 'You're in, you're out'."
Beckham last night became England's latest injury worry.
He suffered a slight groin strain in Real Madrid's 1-1 draw with Villarreal. Beckham said: "We'll have to see what it's like but I don't think it's going to be a problem."
