Beckham has learned from one of the modern game's most resolute captains, Bryan Robson, and has much of his mental strength. This, of course, is what has helped him come to terms with his own fame. He has had to be strong. No England captain in the past has provoked such global attention. Beckham, though, can survive the scrutiny.
