Ballesteros admits he's feeling better 'day by day'

Seve Ballesteros has revealed he is getting better "day by day", as the golf legend recovers from four operations to remove a brain tumour.

The 51-year-old Spaniard will tomorrow start a second course of chemotherapy and he said: "I hope and wish it will be as effective as the first one. I am very motivated and working hard, although I am aware that my recovery will be slow and therefore I need to be patient and have a lot of determination.

"I am following strictly all the advice the doctors are giving me. Besides, the physiotherapists are doing a great job on me as I feel better day after day."

Ballesteros underwent the operations after fainting and being admitted to hospital in October.

Retief Goosen made a great start in his bid to regain the Qatar Masters title he won in 2007.

An eye complaint meant the South African could not defend his crown last year but at Doha Golf Club today he was four-under after 11. That saw him share a oneshot lead with Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who had played 12 holes.
