Aussies don't scare us any more - Trescothick

Marcus Trescothick is convinced he and his England team-mates will not live in awe of Australia this summer

Trescothick, who plays his 100th limited-overs international today as the NatWest triangular tournament begins with a match against Bangladesh at The Oval, has known many more downs than ups in meetings with the Aussies.

But the Somerset opener, who burst into the England team five years ago and has been a fixture ever since, insists there should be no inferiority complex this time.

Beating Australia in their last two one-day contests, including Monday evening's amazing 100-run win in the Twenty20 clash at Southampton's Rose Bowl, cannot have done any harm. But England's feelgood factor is not down to those two results, argues Trescothick.

"Everyone has been a little bit in awe of them," he said. "But I think over the last 18 months we've gained the confidence to compete with the best team in the world. It's not the fact we've beaten them in two one-day games. How we've done over the past 18 months is the most important thing."

While the outcome of the Ashes series is going to make or break this summer from England's perspective, Sunday's NatWest game against Australia at Bristol provides an early chance to build on that Twenty20 success.
