He said: 'We're a team who have gone through hard times, have come back and hopefully we can do that again, but there is no doubt that the Lions are the best we've played against'.
The Australian Press seem to agree.
The Sunday Mail devoted its back page to the Lions' victory with the headline 'Smashed' above a picture of Australian scrum half George Gregan surrounded by rampant red jersies.
The Sunday Age said: 'The Australians were pathetic in the first hour of the match, making a mockery of their standing as world champions. Their defence, especially in midfield, was dis-graceful and often invisible.
'They teamed like blind strangers, enabling the Lions to repeatedly, and so easily, break through in the middle of the field.'
The disgraced New South Wales Waratah, Duncan McRae, has emerged from a week in hiding following his assault on Irish Lion Ronan O'Gara.
McRae was widely condemned after television pictures of him pinning O'Gara to the ground and raining punches on the Munsterman's head were broadcast all over the world.
Since then, McRae has received threats from Ireland by email and has been accosted in the streets by British backpackers. But he said: 'I want to make it clear that I am sorry for what happened.
'I regret it and I hope I catch up with O'Gara and say so in person. Still, I don't think the things that have been said about me are fair.
'I've been called a thug, a cheap-shot merchant and a psycho. That stuff really affects my family.'
