The Italian's best chance may come on the lightly-raced colt Dubai Prince in the Champion Stakes which boasts the richest pickings of all on the day with a pot of £1.3m. Dubai Prince looked a serious Derby contender until he suffered an injury in the spring but bounced back with a stylish success at Newbury last month.
He is now pitched against the best 10-furlong horses in training, including Henry Cecil's duo Twice Over - a dual Champion Stakes winner - and Midday, who has won the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood three times.
Dettori was keen to renew his partnership with Deacon Blues in the Sprint but the ride has gone to his great friend Johnny Murtagh.
With Frankel poised to end the season in a blaze of glory it is hard to see Dettori playing anything more than a minor role on Poet's Voice in the QEII. The best news for British racing is that Frankel is to remain in training as a four-year-old when his trainer, Cecil, is keen to step him up in trip.
He said: "Frankel is much stronger now than in the spring and more relaxed in his work. I'm sure he will get 10 furlongs next season."
The trainer stops just short of suggesting that Frankel is the best horse he has handled in a long and distinguished career but added: "As time goes on he will show you what he is and you may not have to ask me the question."
