Meanwhile, Ashley Cole insists Arsenal play more attractive football and are a better team than Chelsea - despite Jose Mourinho's side winning the Premiership.

Chelsea ran away with their first title for 50 years after taking the crown from the Gunners, who had to be content with runners-up spot.

But Cole said: "I think in terms of the way we played we are a lot smoother and we pass the ball around more. Give Chelsea credit, they stuck to their guns and won the league but we play better stuff.

"Next season, if we keep performing the way we have been in terms of keeping the ball on the floor and sticking to how we can play, then we can only improve on this season.

"We had a little blip and when we lost some vital games and didn't perform as well as the way we finished the season. Hopefully we can carry on the way we finished when we start next season and win the league again."

Cole admitted Arsenal's 2-0 defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford, which prevented them from going unbeaten for 50 league games, had an adverse affect on the team.

He said: "Personally I don't want to say 'that's the game' but it does seem to be the case. It is hard to think that one game can change a season around but it did seem to do that. After that we lost loads of points. With no disrespect, we then played Southampton and West Brom and could only draw matches with them at home."

Cole also believes injuries to key performers also took their toll on the Gunners chances of retaining their Premiership title.

He said: "I am making no excuses but we did have a few players out injured, or players who carried on while injured - key people like Sol Campbell, Thierry Henry and Gilberto Silva.

"I think Thierry played the whole season at less than full fitness."

And Robert Pires believes he is still good enough to play for France despite being omitted from the squad for a friendly international against Hungary next Tuesday.

The Arsenal midfielder has not been picked by Raymond Domenech since he criticised the France coach's strategy after a 2-0 victory over Cyprus in a World Cup qualifier last October.

Pires said: "What do you want me to do? I can only be good on the pitch and I think I have done a good job recently."

"I think I deserve to be picked but there is someone in charge and he makes the decisions. We should bury the hatchet. Of course I still hope to play for France and I believe I will."
