Arsenal avoid Galatasary trip

Arsenal will not have to play their UEFA Cup Final conquerors Galatasaray when the draw for the second group phase of the Champions League is made tomorrow morning.

Both teams are in the same section of the draw and, therefore, cannot be drawn against each other. Last year's UEFA Cup Final in Copenhagen, which the Turkish side won on penalties, was marred by fighting between rival fans.

Liverpool could be drawn against Juventus, which would be the first meeting since their 1985 European Cup final which ended in tragedy with the death of 39 Italian fans.

Section one will contain the top four seeds - holders Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus - while pot four will contain the supposed 'weakest' sides - Roma, Bayer Leverkusen, Sparta Prague and Boavista. The final 16 will be divided into four groups of four, consisting of one team from each section.

Sides from the same country are still kept apart, while teams who played each other in the first group stage cannot meet again.

This means Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool will definitely face one of the big four from section one. United will also face either Panathinaikos or Nantes from section two, while Arsenal will draw either Deportivo or the French side.

Section one: Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.

Section two: Liverpool, Deportivo La Coruna, Nantes and Panathinaikos

Section three: Manchester United, Arsenal, Galatasaray, Porto.

Section four: Roma, Bayer Leverkusen, Sparta Prague, Boavista.
