Spain's minister of sport Jaime Lissavetzky today backed the probe, and said: "Everyone who has a public function has to consider their declarations, and make sure they do not give a negative image. We are going to have zero tolerance in questions of racism."
The issue of racism in Spanish football has escalated after fans at Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium booed and directed monkey noises towards several of England's black players during a friendly on 17 November.
And in subsequent weeks, there have been a number of cases of racist behaviour from fans in the Primera Liga.
Madrid's Roberto Carlos was the target of monkey chants in the game against Barcelona at the Nou Camp, while Barca's Samuel Eto'o was subjected to similar treatment when the Catalan club visited Getafe.
