"I was thinking of trying to keep the ball in the corner," he said. "But I was so tired I just slung over the cross and Didier did the rest."
Cole, who has become a regular in Chelsea's
line-up in recent weeks, did his fair share of defending as Bayern piled on the pressure. We attack together and defend together," he said. "We knew we would have to defend and then try to catch them on the break."
Cole's midfield colleague, Frank Lampard, agreed that the ideal solution for Chelsea now would be to make sure of the Premiership title before resuming their bid to win the Champions League and a memorable trophy treble.
"It would be ideal if we could win the next two matches which would bring us the Premiership title because there would be less pressure on us then.
"But whatever happens, we have the experience from last year plus a resilience and confidence.
"Losing to Monaco in last year's semi-final was one of the worst experiences of my football career up to now because we were in the driving seat so many times over the two games and still lost.
"The same thing could have happened if we were weak when Bayern made it 1-1 but we learned our lessons from last year.
"As for who we play, I don't really have a preference. When you reach the semi-finals, you know it's going to be tough."
