Andy Murray: You ain't seen nothing yet

Andy Murray today promised British tennis fans that he can only get better as the Scotsman prepared for his fourth-round clash with Richard Gasquet at Wimbledon.

Murray insisted he is still "two or three years away from producing his best tennis despite having only dropped one set in reaching this stage of the tournament.

Murray has emerged as a genuine contender following his four-set win over Tommy Haas on Saturday.

The British No1 has never got past the fourth round at any Grand Slam but now has his eyes set firmly on a bigger prize even though he has a possible meeting with Rafael Nadal lying ahead in the last eight.

Murray, scheduled to play last on Centre Court, said: "I'm not really thinking about reaching the quarter-final - I am more interested in making it to the final.

"I feel I am better prepared to go deep into a Slam and that's really the main difference. I have put in the work off the court to believe that I can win a Slam, but I am still two or three years away from playing my best tennis."

Murray, who would be the first British player since Tim Henman in 2004 to reach the last eight, spent yesterday following what has become a successful routine during the Championships by walking his puppy; training on the practice courts at Wimbledon and then "chilling out" with girlfriend Kim Sears and friends at his Wandsworth flat watching the Euro 2008 Final between Spain and Germany. He said: "I am spending less time around the courts, less time watching tennis on the TV and having more of a life outside tennis, which is making a difference.

"I am enjoying myself when I'm on the court now rather than it being a bit of a drag." The No12 seed's new-found serving power has seen him overcome Fabrice Santoro, Xavier Malisse and Haas, the former world No2. But now comes a step up in class in the form of Gasquet, who has never lost to the Scot.
