Andy Murray wary of another clay lesson

Philipp Kohlschreiber is planning another tough day on clay for Andy Murray.

The British No.1 muzzled ‘Mad Dog’ Marinko Matosevic, as the Australian went down 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 with barely a whimper, to set up a third-round clash with the German on Saturday.

It will be only the second career meeting with Kohlschreiber, who won the Dusseldorf tournament on clay coming into Paris and defeated Spain’s Tommy Robredo in Rome the previous week.

That would normally be enough to sound alarm bells in the Murray camp but they are already well aware of the 26th seed after he gave Murray a tennis lesson in their only previous meeting.

Kohlschreiber won 6-2, 6-1 on clay in Monte Carlo in 2010 and Murray (right) recalls the experience well. He said: “I remember not playing particularly well. I was very disappointed.”

However, Kohlschreiber is wary of Murray’s form, saying: “It all depends on his level of play.

“If the big guys are confident and they win many matches, they’re going to be tough to beat. I am on a very nice run, so it’s the best chance to play against the big guys.

“He’s the favourite in this match but I’m going to try everything and fight from the first to last point. I am going to enjoy this match.”

Murray continues to be linked with a string of former players as he continues the search for a new coach. He would, he insists, be happy to work with a female following speculation about Amelie Mauresmo joining his set-up.
