Andy Murray keen for third top 10 scalp in Shanghai

Andy Murray has promised to "give it my best shot" against Roger Federer in Shanghai tomorrow, despite already booking his place in the last four of the end-of-season Masters Cup.

The fact the British No1 does not have to defeat the world No2 to progress highlights the giant strides he has made this year.

And after back-to-back victories against Andy Roddick and Gilles Simon, the 21-year-old has not only the chance of completing a hat-trick of wins over top-10 players but also knocking the defending champion out of the tournament.

Murray lost to the Swiss star in the final of the US Open in September but since then has won two Masters Series titles.

Federer's elimination would be bad news for the tournament, especially following the loss of world No1 Rafael Nadal to a knee injury and Roddick's later withdrawal because of an ankle problem.

However, that is of no concern to Murray, who said: "I am sure the tournament director would rather I didn't win this match with Federer but I think that any time you play against who is probably the greatest player of all time, it's a bit disrespectful not to try and win.
