Allen gives players a Major rollicking

Election fever has hit Brentford with Martin Allen urging his players to get "back to basics" ahead of tonight's League One trip to Wrexham.

The Brentford manager was dismayed by a 4-1 thumping at Bradford on Saturday and believes John Major's famous soundbite is the right advice to lift his down-hearted team.

Allen said: "We sat down and watched the video yesterday. For the first 20 minutes, we did everything wrong. There are three basics to our game - winning headers, winning tackles and winning races - and they were just not there.

"If you don't do those well you are not going to get the ball to even start passing. I have told the players to get back to those basics which they have done so fantastically for most of the season."

"As a professional footballer you don't like playing when the opposition crowd are chanting "easy, easy" in your direction and there were 5,000 Bradford fans doing that on Saturday.

"I don't want to got through that experience again for the rest of my career and that memory will stay with me for a long time. I am sure the players feel the same.
