I was going on holiday the following day and told him that we would finalise the contract when I came back.
But nothing happened and I was then told I wasn't going to be offered another one. My agent spoke to David Pleat and to the chairman and it was the chairman who said they were not offering me anything. I couldn't believe it. I could not understand the whole thing.
To be told I could go in January and not be part of the first team any more, then to apologise and offer me another contract and then change your mind again, is something I don't understand.
You will never find one person in the world who will understand it. I never closed the door to one person at Spurs. But the manager had a personal problem with me.
If I had a row with the manager on the pitch it was forgotten when the game was over, but it was not forgotten by him. There is no space for that in modern football.
If a manager doesn't like a player but he is playing well, then that should be enough.
He makes his own life difficult. I was always loyal to the club. There was no reason for them not to offer me a new contract.
In the end, he said he wanted to work one more year with me but it didn't happen and I don't know why.
Steffen Freund, now at Kaiserslautern, was released by Spurs this summer.
