A genuine team effort deserved a cup or two

Lawrence Dallaglio made it abundantly clear that he didn't want Leicester captain Martin Corry to get one over him in his final match. He was very vocal about that in the dressing room before the Premiership final at Twickenham.

After the match there were no special words from Lol in the dressing room and, to be honest, they wouldn't have been heard above the sound of popping champagne corks and general celebration. Nothing needed to be said.

A new career now beckons for Lawrence off the field and he also now has the time to consider following Austin Healey's lead and getting one of those hair regrowth treatments. All the players met up yesterday for a few beers in Fulham and had a great time marking his retirement and Fraser Water's decision to join Treviso.

We had a private party at the Sports Cafe which was arranged no matter what the result but, of course, it was a rather livelier evening given the result.

It was a chance for the whole club - and this triumph was testament to strength in depth we have at Wasps - to get together and share a beer and Danny (Cipriani) was there for a short while before taking his crutches and plaster cast off to bed. Some of guys went on to another club later, but in a sure sign that I am getting very old, I headed home after finding myself complaining that music was too young and noisy for me at the Sports Cafe.

I was a little surprised to get man of the match. Three years ago, in the same game against Leicester, I thought I had played well enough to have had a shot at the award and didn't get it. This time, I should think Tom Rees felt like that having played so well.
